2019.08.02 Feitsui Reservoir and Xindian River Hydropower System Site Observation and Demonstration Activities

The development, storage and use of water resources have been one of the important indicators to imperial dynasties and government as a good administration since ancient times, and Taiwan is no different. Due to the steep terrain of the rivers in Taiwan, the floods are surging and flooding in the face of rain. When the drought is dry, the bottom is dry, and there is a lack of water. The only way to cure the problem is to build reservoirs and dams to achieve effective river management and water storage. Increase irrigation, power generation, industrial and public water supply, etc., and combine flood control, increase agricultural production, and develop tourism.

In the early years of Taiwan, there were reservoirs. By the end of 2006, there were 109 reservoir dams in Taiwan, with a total storage capacity of 2,714,250,000 cubic meters, and an effective capacity of 21,995,000 cubic meters, the largest in the Zengwen Reservoir. The total capacity is 71,270,000 cubic meters and the effective capacity is 595,500,000 cubic meters. Others in the outlying islands, there are 8 in Wuhu County, 13 in Jinmen County, and 7 in Lianjiang County. Water is the source of life in the natural world, affecting the national economy and people's livelihood.

In line with national policies, the Foundation continued to handle the re  search, exchange, and technology promotion of water conservancy, electric power, and civil engineering technology. Recently, it was launched and received a warm response. "Where does electricity come from?!" Enthusiastically recommended by the Foundation’s Chairman, CEO, and special expert Mr. Yao, and the editor-in-chief and deputy general manager of Sinotech, and Project Manager, Tsinghua University’s concurrent professor Guo Zongyi, and expert author group: Taipower deputy general manager Lan Hongwei, director Liu Yunhong, macro power test center general manager Yang Jinshi, and Vice President Zhang Wengong of CCU, it was successfully published  early July. In order to deepen the discussion on the relationship between water and electricity, Chairman Zeng and CEO Chen arranged a one-day trip to the Feitsui Reservoir and Xindian River Hydropower System Site Observation and Discussion on July 27, and hoped that the author of the book would be in the future, in related fields of electricity, continue to participate in the promotion of relevant works on science and technology, and the Foundation can contribute to the improvement of Taiwan's engineering technology standards.

On the day of the event, we will arrange it at the Water Resources Ecological Education Center, visit the Green Energy Power Generation Experience Zone, the Mechanics Experience Zone of the Arch, etc., and introduce the environmental changes and construction of the Feitsui Reservoir by demonstrating and interacting.

After that, we arranged to have guided tour of the Feitsui Dam. The Feitsui Dam is a three-cored bi-directional curved with variable-thickness concrete arch dam designed and constructed by local talents. It is the largest concrete dam in Taiwan, and the second largest reservoir in Taiwan. The dam has gate facilities such as spillway, scouring road, river discharge, and power intake, for normal water supply, and in typhoon season to regulate the water level of the reservoir. I would like to thank the Taipei City Government’s Taipei Feitsui Reservoir Administration, Engineer Luo for his full explanation, and let the visitors have a deeper understanding of the function and contribution of Feitsui Reservoir. At the same time, we have great respect for everyone involved in planning, design, construction, and at present, all the workers who take part in operation and maintenance of the reservoir and power plant.
